why we love it
This hot cocoa blend knocks any store-bought mixes outta the park (or ice-skating rink if that's your thing) without all the additives and high sugar content. By combining cocoa powder, cacao powder, and coconut sugar, this trio creates a warming beverage that's creamy, subtly sweet, with a rich deep chocolate flavor that satisfies your sweet-tooth.
If you've never heard of or used coconut sugar before, it's a healthy alternative to processed white sugar. It has a lower glycemic-index than regular sugar which means that there's a lower chance of a blood sugar spike upon consumption. Plus, it's minimally processed so it still retains some of the natural minerals, vitamins, and fiber. You can use coconut sugar as a 1:1 substitute for any recipe that calls for sugar.
2 TBSP Cocoa powder (whatever cocoa powder you choose should be dutch processed with alkali)
2 TBSP Cacao powder* (yes, there's a difference and no, it's not a typo!)
2 cups milk of choice. I prefer organic whole milk
Kitchen Utensils: small to medium sized pot, whisk, ladle, measuring cups, and your favorite mugs!
Optional: vanilla extract, cinnamon powder, cayenne powder (for those extra cold days) or other spices
Measure out 2 cups of milk and pour into sauce pan on medium-low. Let the milk warm up for 2-3 minutes but turn it down if it starts to boil.
Add in the triple C! Cocoa powder, cacao powder, and coconut sugar all go into the pot. Whisk well until there are no clumps. Let it warm for another 2-3 minutes. Add in any other spices or flavors you wish. Stir frequently and don't let it boil.
Taste test! Make sure it's to your liking before pouring into mugs. Feel free to add more coconut sugar if you like it more on the sweeter side. The cocoa will thicken a bit as it cools which makes for a delectable sipping experience.
Serve in your favorite mugs. Sip slow and enjoy creating winter memories or a moment of serenity in your daily routine.
